The billiards club was rented out for a concert, said Ramirez.
Shortly after midnight, a white Nissan Pathfinder pulled up outside the club near Hialeah.
At that point, three people “got out of the vehicle with assault rifles and handguns and started shooting at random,” Ramirez said.
“The result is 20 to 25 victims with gunshot wounds and two dead at the scene.”
The injured were taken to various hospitals in the area. At least one of those admitted to the hospital is in critical condition, the police said.
Angelica Green said that both her son and nephew were shot.
Her son was shot once in the abdominal area and was in stable condition after the operation, Green said on Sunday.
“However, my nephew was shot four times,” she said, including once in the stomach area and three times in the leg.
Green said her son was an only child who graduated from college last year.
“He’s educated. He was going out with his educated cousin to celebrate the weekend and they hadn’t made it to the club yet,” she said.
“They said a couple of guys, three guys that caught their eye … they just started shooting … for some reason we don’t know.”
The Miami-Dade Police Department is asking anyone with information about the shooters or their whereabouts to contact the authorities.
“We need our county to provide information,” said Ramirez.
“This kind of gun violence has to stop. It’s the same every weekend. It’s targeted. It’s definitely not a coincidence,” said Ramirez.
This mass shooting took place late Friday evening in the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami.
Police said they are looking for a silver Nissan Maxima that may have been involved in the shooting.
CNN’s Laura James, Amanda Jackson, Natasha Chen and Kevin Conlon contributed to this report.
