The Dean of Windsor made the commendation before the coffin was lowered into the royal vault.
This is what he said:
Go on your journey from this world, oh Christian soul.
In the name of God the Almighty Father who created you;
In the name of Jesus Christ who suffered for you;
In the name of the Holy Spirit who strengthens you;
May your part be at peace that day
and your dwelling in the heavenly Jerusalem. Amen.
Thomas Woodcock, Garter Principal King of Arms, then read from the Sanctuary Philip’s styles and titles – for which he had many throughout his ministry.
“So it pleased Almighty God to withdraw the most famous and exalted Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich, Knight of the noblest Order of the Garter, Knight, from this fleeting life of his divine mercy, the eldest and noblest Thistle Order, Member of the Order of Merit, Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order to which the Royal Victorian Chain was bestowed, Grand Master and Knight Grand Cross of the most distinguished Order of the British Empire, Lord High Admiral of the United Kingdom, one of Her Majesty’s most honorable Privy Councilors, Admiral of the Fleet, Field Marshal in the Army and Marshal of the Royal Air Force, Husband of Her Most Outstanding Majesty Elizabeth the Second by the grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and her other kingdoms and territories, Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, Sovereign n of the noblest order of the garter, whom may God preserve and bless with long life, health and honor and all worldly happiness, “said Woodcock.
One suit was being played by a pipe major of the Royal Regiment of Scotland when the coffin was lowered into the vault. Prince Philip was Royal Colonel of the Highlanders, 4th Battalion, of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
